Hairspray the Musical

Hairspray, the smash hit musical comedy, is now playing in London’s West End with standing ovations every night and unanimous critical acclaim.

‘Big Hair, Big Heart, Big Hit! You will laugh, you will scream, you might even shed a tear or two’ Daily Telegraph.

‘A feel-good romantic comedy - pulsating with musical excitement’ Evening Standard.

Hairspray the musical has broken box office records at the Shaftesbury Theatre! This ‘feel great show’ (Guardian), starring Michael Ball, has recently been awarded Best Musical in the Olivier Awards 2008, the Critics Circle Awards 2008, the What’s on Stage Theatregoers Choice Awards 2008 and the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2007.

Follow Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart as she sets out to dance her way onto TV’s most popular dance show. Can this ordinary girl realise her extraordinary dreams, inspire her mum and still have time to win the boy she loves?

Michael Ball, one of Britain’s leading musical stars, is ’spectacular’ (Daily Telegraph) as he undergoes a major transformation to play Tracy’s larger than life mother Edna, and has been awarded Best Actor in a Musical for the role in the 2008 Olivier Awards. Leanne Jones, ‘in an astonishingly accomplished stage debut’ (Evening Standard) has won the 2008 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical in the role of Tracy. ‘Musical star’ (Sunday Times) Ben James-Ellis, who first shot to fame on the reality TV show Any Dream Will Do, plays heart-throb Link Larkin.

Please note: The role of Edna Turnblad will be played by Adam Price on Monday evening performances.

Michael Ball will be on holiday from 20th December 2008 until the 5th January 2009. He will return on the 6th January. He will also be on holiday from the 9th March until the 16th March 2009 returning on the 17th March.
